    Three billion rupees worth of humanitarian aid arrives in Colombo from India

    As part of its humanitarian assistance to the island nation, India sent a consignment worth 3 billion Srilankan rupees to Colombo. A consignment of 14,700 MT of rice, 250 MT of milk powder, and 38 MT of medicines was donated by the people of India. It is part of a larger delivery of 40,000 MT of rice, 500 MT of milk powder, and medicines by the Tamil Nadu government.

    Three billion rupees worth of humanitarian aid arrives at Colombo from IndiaThe consignment was welcomed by the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Gopal Baglay, as well as Ministers from the Sri Lankan government, Keheliya Rambukwella and Nalin Fernando. The Indian government will provide more than $3.5 billion in economic, financial, and humanitarian assistance to the people of Sri Lanka by 2022.

    Apart from the three credit lines amounting to more than $1.5 billion and forex support of around $2 billion, assistance from the Government and people of India has taken several forms, including the supply of medicines to health-related establishments in various parts of Sri Lanka, distribution of kerosene among the fishermen, and distribution of dry rations to needy sections among others.
